Oh god, was this one hard to stomach!
Brilliant actors striving hard to make the most of what they were given, but a film that is so unbelievable (and not a little bit meanspirited) came out of all their hard work.
Apparently many people who loved the book also hate this film. Maybe they just didn't want to see real-life portrayals of what seemed too surreal (in reading) to believe.
Brian Cox (Dr Finch), who plays this kind of character better than most just goes over the top here. And the kid, who's supposed to be 14, looks too mature not to have just walked out of this crazy house earlier than he does. Mrs Finch, however, is one of the main reasons for sitting through these almost 3 loooooong hours! She's a pip!
